The Joy of the Lord
No matter what year it is I’m sure some craziness is going on in the world. And if you’re unaware of it I’m sure you’re very aware of the craziness going on in your own life. But no matter what the news says, what the report says, or even what your family says, we can rest in the fact that our God is with us through it all. And I don’t know about you but that brings me so much joy. That no matter what it may look like, no matter how it seems, I can be content. Not because of anything I can do but my God... my God is greater than any circumstance, trial, or tribulation. And because of that I truly can be content in any circumstance (Philippians 4:11-13), even in the darkest valley (Psalm 23:4). This piece depicts what it means to me to have the joy of the Lord and the peace of His Spirit.
When I first got saved one thing that brought me the most comfort amidst a world of chaos and confusion was the promise that God would never leave me nor forsake me (Deut 31:4). That I need not fear because the Lord has the last and final say (Proverbs ll: 1). The one who knew me and had plans for my life before I was even born (Jeremiah 1:5); plans of prosper, hope, and a good future (Jeremiah 29:11 ). These promises are what give me the confidence to walk through the trials and tribulations with peace.
"Therefore even when we walk through the darkest valley, we will fear no evil, for our God is with us just as he promised."
The Trick of the Enemy
The enemy also knows all of the promises of our heavenly father and even if we don't always believe or walk in the fullness of them, he does. That's why he preys on the weak. He lurks tirelessly to throw us off track (I Peter 5:8). That is why in Ephesians, Paul warns us that our struggles in this world are not against flesh and blood but against principalities and the rulers of darkness (Ephesians l:12). Therefore we must take up the full armor of God and resist the enemy and his wicked schemes and he will flee (James 4:7).
But the good news is that we can stand in God's truth and what he’s said because he is always true. I'm sure you've heard it before, but now I need you to believe it; the devil is a liar. He will try all he can to convince you that God may not have truly said that. He will try to get you to question who you are in Christ. But stand firm and stand strong in the confidence that the enemy is already defeated! His lies and schemes are illusions. OUR GOD did not give us a spirit of fear but of Power and Love and a sound mind (2 Timothy I:7).
Psalm 23:4
Therefore even when we walk through the darkest valley, we will fear no evil, for our God is with us just as he promised. He is not a human being that he should lie or change his mind (Numbers 23:19). So stand firm in the Lord and lean on him in your times of weakness and despair. He will carry you and will guard your mind and heart with a peace that transcends ALL understanding (Philippians 4:7).
